Two music videos analysed

Two Music videos

'Snoop Dogg - Gin and Juice' ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1EaF50O-C8 )
The main shot types used in the music video are the medium shots or long shots where you see the main artist with a group of people partying and singing with him, this shows that everyone wants to be like him therefore suggesting that he has a large group of people behind him ready to support and follow him which could link to the genre of the music as it is an aggressive type of music and it uses a lot of adult content which is backed by the use of alcohol, drugs and half naked women dancing around the artist. They also use other diagetic sounds such as the TV braking and gunshots being fired this could mean that there is a lot of violence in the video which links in to the genre of the music and matches some of the lyrics that are sung by the artist. in the video the main artist has been presented wearing a lot of gold jewellery this makes him look more powerful and shows that he has a higher status than anyone around him by the fact that he is wealthy due as gold is an expensive and a unique thing to own. The video is located in Compton, its a poor area with high crime levels this just backs up the fact that hip hop genre is an aggressive and dangerous where most rappers would have encountered some sort of criminal life in their past.

Today I have started to analyse one of 2 music videos in my genre which is hip-hop music, I have chosen to analyse gin and juice by Snoop Dogg because I think that its a classic rap video and it shows all the features that I need to include when recording my music video.

'50 Cent - Many Men' ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D3crqpClPY )
The main shot type used in this music videos is long shot in order to show the whole scene in one take this will allow the audience to see clearly what's happening in the scene. Also you notice a tracking shot on the artist walking along the street, this represents his pride and prestige due to the way he walks which links to the genre because most of the artist present themselves with power. There is a lot of mise-en-scene in this music video, for example you can tell a lot about the places that are shown like expensive and prestige restaurants and clubs meaning that this lifestyle is not for everyone but those that have money and power, however in the music video they also show the other side of hip hop genre which is crime, they show this by having people in the car shooting  at the main artist which underlines his lifestyle and hatred for him. later on the scene you see the artist in a hospital bed meaning that he survived 8 gun shots suggesting that he is immortal and unstoppable, shortly after that he does not stay there but goes and gets his revenge this strongly links with the genre as he is presented as a criminal and not as a artist. The costumes that they wear are baggy clothes, expensive shoes and a lot of jewellery which is almost present in every hip hop music video. You have lots of diagetic sounds such as gun shots, bottles popping, cars, glass smashing on the floor these sounds all create the feeling of action. The one thing that makes this music video different from the others is the use of actors from popular dramas such as 'CSI' it shows them working on his case and trying to catch him but cant find anything on him which also links to the genre as police is always involved hip hop music and in most cases is against it.

Today I have started to analyse the second music video based around my genre, I have chosen to analyse many men by 50 cent as I think that this video will link to our story line of our music video due to gunshots and more serious lyrics, whereas gin and juice is more relaxed and calm song.
